2020 Summer Reading Club
Scavenger Hunt
Everything has changed about summer reading this year! We won't be having programs, but we will have a a great program to keep the kids busy and engaged this summer! Join us for an all-ages scavenger hunt reading club!
Here's how it works:
Here's how it works:
- Download the app Goose Chase on your smart phone
- Enter one of the following codes to start a game: WK511Q, 97GDL5, 1BV9XD, or EZ8DQW. (All of the games are identical. If you have more than one child using the app on the same phone, please sign each child up for a different game. Otherwise, please choose only one game for one child. However, there is no age limit! Parents can read and play, too!)
- Beginning June 1, every day there will be between 3-4 new challenges for the kids to complete. Complete them on that day, or any day after when the challenge is still going!
- Pickup supply bags at the library. There will be a bag for each of the 8 weeks of the program. Please just one bag per child per week.
Frequently Asked Questions
Questions about the Scavenger Hunt
The answer to most questions is, "Sure! Have fun!" There are certain limitations with this new format, due to COVID-19 restrictions. Also, we weren't able to do everything we would have wanted, had we had more time. But this is meant to be fun, not a school assignment! So be creative and have fun!
Is there a different club for different ages?
Not right now. Since we had to rapidly change our plans for Summer Reading Club, we had to come up with a program that would appeal to the widest range of kids possible. We have sought to create challenges that kids and families of different ages would enjoy. We hope to offer some challenges later for teens and adults.
Please note: Some of the parts in the supply bags are not appropriate for children under 3. Please use discretion with young children!

When can I pick up my supplies packet? Can I get one I missed or get one if we'll be away on vacation the next week?
Supply packets for the following week will be available on the Thursday before. You can begin picking up the supply packet for the week of June 1 on May 28.
You can definitely get supply packets you missed or get one for the following week if you'll be away... provided it's available. We're happy to work with you, but we are rapidly trying to pull all of this together and can't promise how early certain weeks will be available.

I have more than one kid and one phone. What do I do?
Unfortunately, the app is not built for this situation. We have a few options for you. Please choose which works best for your family:
- Choose a different game for each child. We have created 6 identical games just for this situation! Put in a different code to join different games. Just remember which child is playing which game!
- Create a log-in ID for each child. While this may be the best solution, it's a headache to log in and out every time one of the kids wants to do a challenge.
- Just play as a family. You can still pickup a packet for each of the kids at the library. If you choose this option, please be sure to let us know how many kids are playing in the first Welcome challenge. This will help us with statistics!
I don't have {glue, dominoes, legos, etc.} to do one of the challenges!
The library is supplying certain supplies to help kids do challenges. We hope that the items not supplied you'll have around the house. If you don't, you can be creative and find something similar, or just skip that challenge.
I don't want to do one of the challenges. It's too {babyish, advanced, girly, etc.}!
Then don't do it! This is supposed to be fun, not a school assignment! You don't have to do every single challenge! Just the ones you want to!
Do I have to do every challenge on that day?
No! You can do the challenge on the day it appears or any day thereafter. The Summer Reading Club and scavenger hunt will run from June 1 to July 26. However, we'll leave the hunt open for another month, if you want to catch up on some of the challenges!
I can't use an app on my phone!
We are sorry! That is the primary drawback to doing Summer Reading Club this way! With the restrictions due to coronavirus, using an app was the best way to get everyone involved!
If you cannot use the app, please pick up the supply packet each week. At that time, please ask for a printed list of challenges.
