eBooks and Audiobooks

Cloud Library has a large selection of eBooks and audiobooks available to checkout. Use your computer, Kindle, iPad, Nook or other device to read and listen. For more help with eBooks visit Brownwood Library's eBook page or bring your device by the library.

​SimplyE combines the Brownwood Library's extensive eBook collection (also available from CloudLibrary) with a collection of 1200+ books from the Texas State Library. Although not currently compatible with Kindle or audiobooks, we recommend this for those with all other eReaders. To use, go to your app store, download the SimplyE app, choose Brownwood Library and put in your library card number. For more help with eBooks visit Brownwood Library's eBook page or bring your device by the library.

Biblioboard books were purchased for patrons of all of the libraries in Texas, for the purpose of expanding the SimplyE app. If you use and enjoy the SimplyE app, you won't find anything new here. If you prefer to browse on your computer or another way, you'll find a great selection from the E-Read Texas Unlimited Collection, including popular non-fiction such as travel, nutrition and health, and gardening, along with adult and young adult fiction. Access Biblioboard  by logging in to the library's catalog. ​eBooks at Ebscohost is a collection of primarily non-fiction eBooks for children and adults. Some of the subjects are a little obscure, which is actually a good thing. If you are researching a topic that we do not have a physical book for, there is a good chance we may have a book on this topic. Academic Search Complete, EBSCO Host, and Gale Databases are three separate companies that each search a variety of academic journals, popular magazines, news articles and books. All three are similar, but each with access to a different variety of journals, magazines or eBooks. Highly recommended for school or college students needing authoritative sources for research. Also great if you are just looking for some solid, up-to-date information on a topic. Access any of these databases by logging in to the library's catalog. Explora encompasses three separate resources:
Explora-Elementary, an easy-to-use search interface for K-5 students looking for magazine and newspaper articles, books and encyclopedias on a variety of topics, such as animals, art, music, geography, language arts, math, science and social studies.
Explora-High School, an easy-to-use search interface for students in grades 6-12 looking for magazine and newspaper articles, books, informational texts, primary sources, multimedia and more on a variety of curriculum-related topics.
Explora-Public Libraries, ​an easy-to-search interface for public library patrons looking for magazine and newspaper articles, books and other reference materials on a variety of topics.

Texas Reference Center is Texas specific product designed specifically for school and public libraries. The database is comprised of periodicals, reference books, reports, and other content relevant to the state. Texas Reference Center contains 30 full text periodicals, 100 full text reference books, several Texas newspapers, and much more. Examples of titles offered include: Best in Texas, Texas Business Review, Texas Education Review, Texas Journal of Agriculture & Natural Resources, Texas Journal of Women & the Law, Texas Journal on Civil Liberties & Civil Rights, Texas Law Review, Texas Magazine, Texas Monthly, Texas Public Health Association Journal, Texas Review, Touchstone (Texas State Historical Association), Texas Gardener and many more. Access Texas Reference Center by logging in to the library's catalog. The Texshare Databases are a group of resources shared by the majority of public and academic libraries in Texas. By pooling our resources, the Brownwood Library is able to offer you a much wider variety of resources than we could otherwise afford. ChiltonLibrary supplies a solution for the "do-it-yourselfer" that is easy to use no matter the skill level. Repair, maintenance and specification tables provide critical data on thousands of domestic and imported models of cars and light trucks from 1940 onward. ChiltonLibrary provides quick online access to repair, maintenance and service information on seven decades of the broadest range of vehicles available, including cars, trucks, vans and SUVs. Home Improvement Reference Center provides users with user-friendly “how-to” information covering a range of home improvement and repair projects and features full-text content from leading magazines, images not found anywhere else online, and videos of popular home repair projects. ​Small Engine Repair Reference Center provides repair guides for small engines and routine maintenance (tune-ups, brake service, etc.) as well as extensive repairs (engine and transmission disassembly) and also allows users to search by product type, brand, model/engine type, specific area of model/engine type, and model numbers.
