Finding Customers and Creating a Mailing List

Data Axle contains directory information for millions of new, current and historical U.S. businesses and U.S. residents and it contains a listing of U.S. jobs and internships. Directory information on businesses includes the name of a business, its address, telephone number, headquarters, ticker symbol, credit rating, number of employees, estimated sales volume, and more. Business owners can use Data Axel to conduct market research and create maps and charts of similar businesses in the area. ​View a guided tour of this database. Business Planning, Reference and How-To

Small Business Reference Center contains more than 450 full-text reference books and nearly 400 full-text periodicals that provide detailed “how-to” instructions to address small business topics, such as buying and selling a business, managing employees, writing a business plans, understanding legal information, a business and much more. Access Small Business Reference Center by logging in to the library's catalog. ​eBooks at Ebscohost is a collection of primarily non-fiction eBooks for children and adults. Some of the subjects are a little obscure, which is actually a good thing. If you are researching a topic that we do not have a physical book for, there is a good chance we may have a book on this topic. If you are in the repair business or ever do any sort of in-house repair of buildings or equipment, the resources at ChiltonLibrary, Home Improvement Reference Center and Small Engine Repair Reference Center may prove invaluable. Access these resources by logging in to the library's catalog. ChiltonLibrary supplies a solution for the "do-it-yourselfer" that is easy to use no matter the skill level. Repair, maintenance and specification tables provide critical data on thousands of domestic and imported models of cars and light trucks from 1940 onward. ChiltonLibrary provides quick online access to repair, maintenance and service information on seven decades of the broadest range of vehicles available, including cars, trucks, vans and SUVs.

Home Improvement Reference Center provides users with user-friendly “how-to” information covering a range of home improvement and repair projects and features full-text content from leading magazines, images not found anywhere else online, and videos of popular home repair projects. Includes such topics as architectural techniques, tool and material selection, zoning requirements, and many more.

Small Engine Repair Reference Center provides repair guides for small engines and routine maintenance (tune-ups, brake service, etc.) as well as extensive repairs (engine and transmission disassembly) and also allows users to search by product type, brand, model/engine type, specific area of model/engine type, and model numbers. Detailed, user-friendly repair guides for all manner of small engines, including ATVs, generators, boat motors, motorcycles, lawnmowers, snowmobiles, tractors, outdoor power equipment like chainsaws and leaf blowers and more. ​

SCALEUP: Want to Grow Your Business?  Texas State University’s SCALEUP program and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission are partnering to help local businesses grow. 

The SCALEUP program is currently in Phase 1, gathering data and conducting research. If you have a small business, visit the SCALEUP page to participate in research and help impact the research and tools developed. Sign up for their email list to learn about upcoming research and resources.

Texas State Law Library eBook Collection Many excellent legal books available through Overdrive with a library card from the Texas State Law Library. A library card can be applied for by any Texas resident. This is not a service of Brownwood Library, but an excellent resource for all Texans.
