Local History & Genealogy Library

The Brown County Local History and Genealogy Library was opened in 2006. The 1,700 sq. ft. facility is located across the street from the Brown County Courthouse and is owned by the Brownwood Community Library Association. There are two part-time staff members and numerous volunteers from the Pecan Valley Genealogical Society at the library to help you with your needs.

  • Assist out‐of‐town researchers with BB obituaries and family history.

Our Volunteers

  • Volunteers from the Pecan Valley Genealogical Society (PVGS) are on site every hour the library is open.
  • Volunteers use their own transportation to go to remote areas of the county for photo requests and to record Rural Cemetery burials.
  • Volunteers have fundraisers to provide additional funds for the Genealogy Library.
  • PVGS provides two Board Members to the Brownwood Community Library Board.
